Stretch Marks
What are stretch marks?
Stretch marks, or striae distensa, are a challenging cosmetic problem because they form deep within the dermis. When the skin undergoes a period of rapid stretching, the stress causes damage to the skin’s connective tissues. As the tears are repaired, small red scars form resulting in the familiar appearance. While their color may fade over time, the lines will usually remain, often becoming white. In many cases, stretch marks form following these occurrences:
- Pregnancy
- Rapid growth spurts (usually during puberty)
- Extreme weight gain/loss in short periods of time
- Body building workouts – quick and substantial muscle growth
How can you improve the appearance of stretch marks?
While completely preventing Striae or completely removing them is currently not possible, you can still improve their appearance immensely. Alma’s radiofrequency and laser-based treatments improve the color and skin texture associated with striae, with minimal pain and downtime. The treatments stimulate natural healing processes that result in the production of new collagen and elastic fibers. This process eventually helps to replace the older scarred tissue with smoother skin, minimizing the appearance of stretch marks and leaving patients with better-looking skin.
Watch the videos below to see how these treatments are performed by Alma’s proven technology. The Pixel CO2 laser for dermatologists and the Pixel RF available on the Accent Prime device.
